"And there was just SO MANY STEPS! Like if I think about it, if I'm being REALLY optimistic, there were at least 30 steps that I had to learn in that business before I made my first dollar, which is really scary if you think about it, because the more steps that you have in something, the more wrong things can go."
Hey, my friend, welcome episode two. I'm pumped. You're here today. We're talking the shortest path to making six figures in your spare time. Now here's what's really cool. What 25 year old Eric didn't know was that there are loads of ways to make money online. You guys have probably have seen some of this as well.
If you're on Tik TOK, you're on Instagram. You're probably seeing all the side hustles that pop up. People are talking about, and it's really cool. I'm sure the question has popped across your mind at one point. I know it did for me. Like, what is the best one to follow? Like, what is the path that I should follow to build my business?
My new side hustle? Is that one good? Is that one good? That one looks cool, but what are the problems with that one? Or that one looks cool, and he looks like he's, kind of scammy, and she looks like she's really honest, but is her thing really even make sense?
But you feel yourself just going and being pulled every single direction from every single guru telling you all kinds of things of what's good about it, and why theirs is the best, and all this stuff. You ever felt that and just so confused by it all? I know I did. Especially back then when I was really new at this.
And what I ended up finding out, though, After diving into so many of them, was that they can all work. anything works if you put in enough effort, time, and money. Just a few of them that, that worked really well and we made at least 5, 000 doing. I was like drop shipping and Amazon FBA was a really big one for us.
We ended up making almost 200, 000 in a month with it in sales. That was not profit. Um, that's a whole other thing, right? But we did other things like freelancing and eBay and wholesaling. And I even started doing a ride share for a bit where I was doing a door dash and stuff like that. there was, there's so many that worked really, really well.
But the thing that I was like, I didn't realize at the time was that some of these side hustles require a lot more work than others. At the end of the day, what it comes down to is if you put in enough effort, time and money, anything is going to work, anything. Any of those side hustles you see online or you see in Tik Tok or anywhere else, they're all going to work, but some will just require a lot more effort.
Time, a lot more effort, a lot more money than others out there. So it's really important to keep in mind. So which one should you do? Find one that you want to do. Like, for example, the one that we started out with, there were so many steps though. Like how many steps, if I think about it, did we have, did it take to start our first business?
There was things like where we had to learn how to do it. So we invested in a 7, 000 course at the time. Uh, I spent weeks researching potential product opportunities. I had to go learn all the supplier lingo. More than that though, I had to contact suppliers, but it was hard because a lot of them were in China.
And so there was this big language gap where we didn't really understand each other very well. And a lot of them, they were very dishonest. Like they would send us samples and I'd get the samples and they looked good. At least I thought they looked good. I had no idea what I was talking about. I guess these look good.
I don't know. But then they would send us a lower quality item later. So it was just a really frustrating process. And we'd spend hundreds getting samples from all these people. And apart from that, once we actually found someone, then we had to create a brand name with it. I had to design a logo. I had to learn how to be a designer with Photoshop.
And I had to design a label in the box for packaging and all kinds of things. And there's, there's just all these things, paid thousands for the first order, created an Amazon seller account when it was all ready, learn how to create listings and sales pages and learn how to write sales copy, how to edit the images so they looked good on Amazon.
And there was just so many steps. Like if I think about it, if I'm being really optimistic, there were at least 30 steps that I had to learn in that business before I made my first dollar, which is really scary if you think about it, because the more steps that you have in something, the more wrong things can go.
like, if you look, think about Tesla and you think about Ford cars and stuff like this. One of the reasons that Tesla is so awesome is because the engine is all moving within one part, or at least minimal parts. Whereas you look over at like, regular cars, combustion engines, what cars have been for decades, is there's loads of mini parts.
In the assembly line that are all put together with it. And if one thing breaks, the whole thing kind of falls apart. You know what I mean? It's the same thing here. There, of those 30 steps, there were so many places where things could have and probably should have gone to pot. Where things could have gone so wrong.
And luckily it didn't and we made a good business with it. But it was, it got super scary in all those places. of the 30 steps, maybe 20 of them, things could have gone wrong really fast. And luckily it didn't. But we could have failed and everything could have been just burned to the ground before it even started.
And that was just getting started though, before we made our first dollar. So to keep growing that business involved a lot of stress and hitting pitfalls along the way every single month, spending more on inventory and getting more and more in I wouldn't get in debt for a while there, but eventually we had to just to keep that thing afloat.
And the crazy thing is almost every business is like this. Each has their own set of steps you have to take before you can see your first sales. Now, here's the crazy thing though. As I'm thinking about tackling a new skip to profit business, I know that I want it to be super simple. I want profit to happen fairly quickly. Ideally, I have very little fulfillment on my end, right?
At least starting out every business is like this. Like, each has their own set of steps you have to take. Some of them will have 30 steps. Some of them will have like 50 steps. Others may have far more than that. But the crazy thing is that you have to follow those steps before you can see your first sales start to happen And it, which is kind of scary because the more steps you have, the more likely you are to fail in those things along the way. And so I was thinking about my skip to profit business and what this will look like. I'm mapping this whole thing out. I'm thinking of all this stuff. I know for a fact that I want to be sharing what I'm doing along the way, hence the podcast, hence the newsletter, hence maybe future courses. I don't know.
I don't have anything to sell right now. But as I'm thinking about all this stuff, I'm thinking about how I can create a path for others to follow behind me. And as I'm following things that Russell's talking about, I'm also thinking about how can I simplify these things. for myself because right now I don't have a whole lot of time.
I still want to spend time with my kids. I still want to enjoy diving into my body and bringing it back to life again. But I also want to build something that's going to be absolutely awesome. Epic on brand for me and takes me in this direction of living a life of true profit. So how do I go about doing that?
I need a business that's ultra simple. So what if instead of having a business that was 30 or 50 steps? What if this business started out with just three or four steps. And what if I want to take that business even bigger? So it was another few steps after that. So what if it was like a business that was seven steps tops that would allow me to live a life of profit, that would allow me to triple my paycheck, that would allow me to have the time, necessary to pursue my passions, to be with family, to pursue a life of romance, to chase opportunities, to have the time freedom for all this What if I could build a business that was like that?
That was simple enough, four to seven steps that people can follow along the way with this. And what if I could replicate that very easily for other people too, so that if they wanted to skip to profit business of their own, they could easily fall in and get it done. Just like I am. So that's what I'm really excited for is I'm building this out.
I'm learning not just for myself and I'm building not just for myself, but I'm building for people that are going to be following behind me. That could be you. Now the thing is, maybe you actually want to build a business on Amazon FBA and that's totally awesome. there's challenges there, but there's a lot of great things that happen there too.
Big brands are on there. And I know friends who are continuing this day to do millions on Amazon. It's just not a business model that I want to follow anymore. And so, maybe you want to go a different direction. Maybe you want to do more like the writing or the freelancing. Or you want to do some other things.
Again, just pick something. The fact of the matter is that you don't want to be the guy who With the pails going back and forth every single day, like we talked about in the last podcast, but you want to be someone who's starting to figure out how to build a system that can then create a pipeline that's always bringing money day in, day out to you.
You got to figure out what that is for you. And ideally it's something you're excited about. You kind of geek out on, and ideally it's something simple. find something that you're excited about and then stick with it.
Put in enough time, put enough energy, put enough money to make that thing pop and start working for you. and when you get on the newsletter, that's where you're going to find all the really good stuff, that I'm building, putting together and why, and then what the results are of those things. Anyhow, I'm super excited for it. Thank you again for joining me today.

After 3 years of building my life-draining agency, I did the unthinkable and burned it all to ashes! After months of being "retired" in a 9-to-5 job, my big question is this:
"How fast can I triple my paycheck with an ultra simple online business in my spare time?"
